A FISHERMAN looking forward to eating his catch for dinner was shocked with what was inside its belly after slicing it open.

In gruesome footage, the fish is seen lying lifeless on the ground with what a seemingly swollen abdomen.

Rene Bosco Almeida, 42, then cuts into its stomach and recoils in horror when he pulls out a gigantic rat.

The rodent’s dead body is completely whole and barely smaller than the fish.

Rene said: “A group of us had been out fishing on the lagoon and made a good catch which we were taking home for dinner.

“One of the fish, a Trahira, looked really bloated with a swollen belly.

“We decided to check out what was inside because we know this fish can devour creatures nearly half its size.”

Before he went to cut it open, his friend had pointed to lacerations on the outside of its body.

GRIM: A gigantic was pulled out of the fish’s stomach

“At that moment we realized that whatever was inside had put up a ferocious fight in the stomach and had tried to claw its way out right to the bitter end,” he added.

A trahira – also known as a wolf or tigerfish – has a large mouth brimming with razor sharp teeth and is usually found in clear streams, rivers, and lakes across South and Central America.

After the chilling discovery, the angler admitted: “I won’t be eating another one again because you never know what they’ve digested before they’ve been caught.”
